Boulder - The National Center for Atmospheric Research
Company Description:
NCAR provides the university science and teaching community with the tools, facilities, and support required to perform innovative research. Through NCAR, scientists gain access to high-performance computational and observational facilities, such as supercomputers, aircraft and radar - resources researchers need to improve human understanding of atmospheric and Earth system processes. NCAR and university scientists work together on research topics in atmospheric chemistry, climate, cloud physics and storms, weather hazards to aviation, and interactions between the sun and Earth. In all of these areas, scientists are looking closely at the role of humans in both creating climate change and responding to severe weather occurrences.Company Website:

From anywhere in Denver: Connect with Interstate 25 North. As you drive through north Denver on I-25, take the exit marked Boulder (US 36). About 25 minutes later, as you approach the south end of Boulder, the first exit you’ll see is marked Table Mesa Drive/South Boulder Road; it’s also marked CO 157. The exit is forked; be sure to stay in the right lane, in order to approach the signal light. When the light turns green, turn left, or west, onto Table Mesa Drive. Stay on the road until it literally dead-ends in our parking lot—3.2 miles away and 800 feel above the city.
Or from a Front Range town north or east of Boulder: If you can connect with Colo Hwy 52, the drive is just as easy: Follow Colo 52 to where it intersects with Colo 119, also called the Longmont Diagonal, northeast of Boulder. The junction is at the location of a large IBM plant on the west side of the highway. Turn left, or south, onto Colo 119. About 3-4 miles down the road, Colo 119 splits off to the right. Do not exit; just keep driving south on the highway, which now becomes Colo 157. When you get to the south end of Boulder, take the Table Mesa Drive exit and continue to the right, or to the west. About 3 miles from that exit, you will arrive on NCAR’s mesa.
As you reach the top of the mesa, you’ll see the Mesa Lab on your right, as well as the parking lot ahead of you. At the top of the parking lot, there is a sign for drop-off; large buses are asked to park at the back, or bottom, of the inverted U-shaped lot.
If you have elderly or walking disabled folks in your group who need to be dropped off at the front door, these arrangements must be made in advance. Contact us so that we can tell you how to accomplish this (munoz@ucar.edu; 303-497-1173).
Note: All those visitors 16 years and older must now sign our Visitor Register, just inside the front door.
